Committed to Trying

It was brought to my attention that I don't blog enough. I'm pretty sure that I've said this before, but now I'm making a public commitment to blog on a more regular basis. Most days, I feel like I don't have much to say.

So, its the holiday season. Can you believe it? I spent Thanksgiving with my best friend Megan and her amazing family in Utah. It was nice to be back there and meet her precious new little girl, Nora. I also got to hang out with my favorite 2 year old, Reed. I always have so much fun with them! It makes me sad that we're not closer and I don't get to see them very much.

While I was in Utah, I got to also spend time with my sister and her husband. I finally got to see their house. I've been a really bad sister because it took me over a year to finally get out to Utah to see their new house. In addition to seeing the house, Candace took me to a two hour Zumba class (to anyone who hasn't tried Zumba, you should. It's a blast and a great workout.)

Ok, so there is my update. I promise that there will be more. With that, I leave you, my faithful readers, with one of my favorite pictures from my trip to Greece. This is a picture of super cute downtown Mykonos. This picture makes me happy, especially because its pouring outside currently and I need to go to a happy place.

Right Now...

Thanks to Diana for the template for this blog post...

Outside my window…Fall is here. The window is open and cool air is coming in. I can't control the heat in my apartment, so I leave the window open for relief.

I am thinking…my upcoming week. On Monday, I'm going to get beat up by my personal trainer. Tuesday, I'm going to spend with Bernadette Peters at "A Little Night Music" and then I have a quick trip to San Francisco. What I'm most looking forward to is my friend's little sisters' sweet 16 party on Long Island. I'm sure a blog post will come out of Saturday night!

I am thankful for…EVERYTHING! I have a pretty great life and I love every minute. God has blessed me more than I could ever deserve.

From the kitchen…I'm fasting from take out. As part of my commitment to getting back into shape, I will be making my meals, as much as possible!

I am wearing…PJ's. I'll eventually put on my jeans and boots.

I am creating…a comfortable home. Through cleaning and a little odds and ends, my little home feels warm and comfortable.

I am going…to see all of my favorite SF girlfriends this week! Two in SF and two here in New York.

I am reading…Ragamuffin Gospel, which is a great book if you need to be reminded that God loves sinners.

I am hoping…that the I will survive the winter!

I am hearing…Milano run back and forth, chasing the hairband.

Around the house…Magazines that need to be recycled, dishes need to be done, laundry that needs to be taken to the cleaners and a bed that needs to be made.

One of my favorite things…Meg's blog, I love reading about my boy Reed!

A picture to share...We've been listening to Christmas music in the office, and this man keeps coming on our Pandora station:

Thoughts that are Far from Deep

It's Sunday night, I'm catching up on some DVR and thought I'd post some thoughts.

  • Today was beautiful! Why is it when the weather is nice, all I can think about is what I need to buy? Why can't I ever have no money fun?
  • I had brunch today with some girlfriends. I am so thankful for good friends (and good food)!
  • I decided to change the name of my blog. Since I wear designer jeans more than I have deep thoughts, I thought the title change was appropriate.
  • For example, I get the jingle from the 'My Buddy' commercial stuck in my head on a fairly regular basis, and that is far from deep.
  • I'm kind of embarrassed that I just shared that with the world.
  • I got to spend some time with some of my new co-workers last week and I'm really enjoying them. It's been fun getting to know new people.
  • I'm heading to Utah in a couple of weeks to see Michael Buble. I am still a little broken hearted that he is engaged.
  • We just had an assessment at boot camp and I'm happy to say that my strength and endurance has improved so much! I have six weeks left, its time to kick it into full gear.
  • I think I'm ready to switch to the iPhone. I think I've finally made the decision. I've been going back and forth between the iPhone and Blackberry.
  • Right now my cat is staring at me, I find it a little creepy sometimes.
  • My downstairs neighbor is singing at the top of her lungs, this happens on a pretty frequent basis. She's not just singing for fun, she is performing.
Ok, that's about all for tonight. Thanks for reading!

Getting Romped

So last night I was reminded of just how old I am.

I'm going to my friend Tina's 30th birthday party tomorrow, so I thought it would be fun to pick up a new top for the occasion. I ran into Forever 21 because usually I can find a cute "going out" top for not a ton of money. I went into the store, which is so full of stuff that I didn't know where to start.

As I was looking through the racks, I stumbled upon a blue satin strapless romper. For my readers that don't know what a romper is, its its a one piece short outfit. According to Wikipedia, rompers are worn by children (and sometimes women). So I picked it up, laughed at it and then put it back. And then I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try. I grabbed that with a few other pieces and made my way to the dressing room.

Saving the satin one piece for last, I tried the tops on and none were worth purchasing. And then it was time, time to try on the romper. I put it on and zipped it up. First can I say, that Forever 21's clothes are made for teenagers, so sometimes they don't really fit me. In this moment, I felt good. I had it zipped and it looked pretty good. So, good in fact, I thought about bringing it home with me. Then ten minutes later I hung it back up, because really what am I going to do with a romper!?!

"Natural" Blonde

For those of you that don't know, I dye my hair blond. I've dyed my hair since high school and really have no idea what my natural hair color is. My guess is its some mousy blondish brown color, probably not that pretty looking.

Why this post? My aunt and I were discussing hair color today (as she was highlighting my hair) and how common practice it is. Its no longer just to cover gray hair and its more of a rarity if you don't dye your hair. I feel comfortable as a blonde and think it suits me. My mom always said that she should have had red hair and I feel the same about mine.

So I want your opinion. What do you think of hair color? Is your hair "natural"?

BTW - Please note my blonde vs. blond usage. I looked up the rules so that the grammar is correct :)

Stop with the MRS.!

So, after a year hiatus, I finally have something to blog about. There have probably have been multiple things to write about this year, but nothing has moved me to so, until yesterday...

I've had DirectTV for a couple months. When I signed up, they gave me free HBO, Starz and Showtime. After receiving my November bill, I realized that they don't stop the service, they charge you for the premium channels.

Kind of annoyed by this, I called DirectTV and spoke with a very polite customer service representative -we'll call him Bob.

Bob: Thank you for calling DirectTV, can I please have the name on the account.

Me: Sure, April Conyers.

Bob: Hello, MRS. Conyers, how can I help you today?

Me: (Ignoring the MRS. Conyers reference) I need to cancel HBO, Starz and Showtime.

Bob: I'm sorry to hear that, MRS. Conyers. Are you not happy with the channels?

Me: No, the channels are fine, I just don't want to pay for them.

Bob: Well, MRS. Conyers, you know those channels average out to be about 3 cents per day, are you sure you want to cancel, MRS. Conyers?

Me: Yes, Bob - As I said before I want to cancel those channels - Please stop trying to sell me!

Bob: OK ma'am, we'll cancel. Remember you can sign up for them anytime. Have a great day MRS. Conyers.

So you may be thinking, what's the problem with this conversation? I have a problem with being referred to as MRS. Conyers. I know it seems petty, but I'm not married. I live in an apartment with a roommate and a cat. Why do people just assume? Why did this drive me so crazy? I'm not really sure. Just food for thought - there are certain social rules that should always be followed.

What bothers you?
